My crown fell off, so I called Smile Design of Northern Virginia to ask if they could cement it back in place. They told me yes and said I could come in. However, once I got there, instead of simply fixing the crown, they started pushing for X-rays and other procedures. I explained multiple times that I am pregnant and did not want unnecessary X-rays, but they kept insisting it was “safe” and said I had cavities and needed root canals. Later, I went to another dentist for a second opinion and was told I did NOT need root canals at all. In my experience, Dr. Lam seemed more focused on making money than actually helping patients. They recommended and performed procedures that were unnecessary, yet never even did the one thing I originally came in for — cementing my crown back in place. Very disappointing experience, especially while pregnant. I would recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to major dental work here.

I had an excellent experience at Smile Design of Northern VA! From the moment I walked in, the staff was welcoming, friendly, and professional. The front desk made the check-in process smooth and stress-free, and the office itself was clean and comfortable. Dr. Sylvie Lam was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to explain every step of the procedure, making sure I felt at ease. She was gentle, attentive, and genuinely cared about my comfort throughout the appointment. I especially appreciated how clearly she discussed my treatment options and answered all of my questions. Overall, the level of care and attention to detail was outstanding. I highly recommend this practice to anyone looking for a trustworthy and compassionate dental team. I’ll definitely be returning for future visits!

I do not usually post reviews, certainly not negative ones. Dr. Lam is the worst dentist I have ever had. I stayed for my hygenist, not her. The straw that broke the camel's back, however, was Dr. Lam's recent attempt to fill a cavity in my mouth. When she sat down to get to work (finally, after over an hour of waiting for her) she was distracted and rushing. She said "you will only need the numbing gel" and applied some to the left side of my jaw. She then began to work on the right side of my lower jaw. She HIT THE NERVE not just once but twice, which was terribly painful. She then blamed her assistants and said "I didn't know they hadn't numbed you." As I said, at the start she had said that I would not need numbing beyond the gel on the left side of my face. She knew I was not numb on the right side. She gaslights and denies responsibility like this all the time. Her hygienists are great, which is why I stayed as long as I did. In the other procedures I have had with her, Dr. Lam is always rough and dismissive of discomfort: once she bruised my tongue so severely that I had trouble eating. I told her so later, and she laughed and said something like "denistry is so rough!"- it

My teeth were a mess. Misaligned, some missing and broken, I needed help. Average dental practices didn’t seem to offer a plan for what was needed. After the consultation with Dr Lam I finally had some hope. Followed her plan and I finally have a healthy mouth and decent smile- thanks to the whole team of talented caring professionals.

I am unable to recommend this dental office based on my experience. I received a dental bridge at a significant cost and later (under 4 months) developed ongoing issues. When I returned to this office to express concerns about the fit of the bridge, I waited over an hour past my scheduled appointment time and was informed that no adjustment would be made. I sought a second opinion, ruling out other possible causes with my medical care doctor and another dentist. I was advised that the ill-fitting bridge may be contributing to recurring oral thrush and bleeding between the gum line and the bridge during routine flossing. Given the cost of treatment, the wait time, and the lack of resolution, this experience did not meet my expectations for care.
